Walt Unsworth said he'd like a guidebook covering Arran. The route research was completed in three trips, ranging from wintery spring through a glorious summer. All types of walks were checked, from easy nature trails to romps along the rugged mountain ridges. The guidebook contains plenty of high mountain walks, but also covers lonely moorlands and a range of gentler walks. The island has been described as 'Scotland in Miniature' and anyone spending time on Arran will soon feel they know the place well. Bus services circle the island, and were used exclusively during the route research. In a review for the Mountaineering Council of Scotland, Kevin Howett said, "I have to admit to being impressed by the amount of information contained in this little guide."
