What is Paddy Dillon doing in 2008?

Paddy Dillon walks hard for a living and is always juggling a number of projects. His work leads to a wide variety of places.

Epic walks last year -  Paddy walked the whole of the GR5 across the French Alps, along with all its variants and alternatives, north to south and south to north, in a journey lasting 10 weeks and covering more than 1000 miles (1600km). A completely new guidebook to the route is due to be published in summer 2008.

Guidebook projects - Paddy recently took delivery of a new full-colour guidebook covering The National Trails, which is already a best-seller. He also completed a full-colour update of Walking in County Durham, due for imminent publication. Current projects include new editions of Walking in Madeira and Walking in the North Pennines, and a new guidebook to the Reivers' Way around Northumberland. Paddy is also working on a new guide covering the long-distance GR221 through the mountains of Mallorca, due for publication in 2009.

Out and About - Paddy finds the time to visit all sorts of odd places for short periods throughout the year. He is also delivering illustrated talks about walks at various events around Britain. These include the LDWA AGM (National Trails), the North Devon Walking Festival (South West Coast Path), the Keswick Mountain Festival (GR5 and GR20 through the Alps and Corsica) and the Arran Outdoor & Walking Festival (Islands).

The English Lake District - The Lake District is on Paddy's doorstep and is visited regularly to keep abreast of route changes. Paddy writes several magazine features each year on the area, and in 2008 is running a backpacking series in Lakeland Walker.
